ROBINSON (ROBERTSON), WILLIAM M, Companies E & C, pvt, enlisted for 1 year in Paducah, KY at age 26 while a refugee liv ing in Granville, IL. He was 5'11" tall, fair complexion, blue/hazel eyes, dark/amber hair, a farmer, born in Carrol l Co, TN. He was in several skirmishes but no battles. Mostly he served as a scout. Sick in the hospital at Paduca h about two weeks, he did not receive a discharge but mustered out through Nashville, TN on 8/14/65, a few days after m ost of the regiment. Robinson returned to Carroll Co, TN on a freight car. Once home he farmed and served as a loca l preacher for the Methodist Episcopal Church South. He married Nancy Victory Barnes. In 1889 he joined the GAR and li sted his residence as Frawley, TN. In 1890 Robinson still lived near the Frawley PO and reported "evil resulting fro m pneumonia and fever settling in legs." He applied for a pension, #761,144/583,262, the same year. Sometime in the e arly 1900s, while living in Buena Vista, TN, Robinson filled out a Civil War Questionnaire. He listed his parents as T homas F Robinson and "Susaner" Smothers, daughter of Jacob and Nancy Smothers. He is buried in the Palestine Cemeter y in Benton Co, TN and has a military marker with no dates.2
