Houlka – Miss Mary Vance Joyner passed away on Feb 25, 1997 at Leake Memorial Hospital in Carthage. She was 86.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 27 at Houlka Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Newman officiating. Sonny Scott
gave the eulogy. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Born in June 1910 in Algoma, Joyner was the daughter of Isaac Newton Joyner and Mary Holland Joyner.
She was a retired school teacher and also worked as a secretary at WCPC radio station and was a writer for The Times
Post. She was a member of Houlka Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Blue Mountain College.
She is survived by four nieces and two nephews, including Billie Smithson of Goodman, Mary Lou Jernigan of Jackson,
Sarah Grace Chestnut of Coco Beach, Fla., Cecelia Baker of Batesville, Ark., Wallace McClendon of Jackson, Billy F
Joyner of Kissimee, Fla., and Stanford Skinner of Birmingham.1
