Samuel was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. On 22 Nov 1794, Samuel and Molly sold 1,000 acres in Wilkes County, Georgia to George Johnson for 100. Samuel and Molly arrived in Tennessee about 1795 (at that time Tennessee was still part of North Carolina). In 1796 Samuel bought a tract of land in Tennessee County for $100.00.

In 1803 Samuel and his son Gideon were on the petition to form Stewart County from Montgomery County. Samuel was an early Baptist minister in Stewart County Tennessee as well as a slave owner.1 2 3 4
