Rites for Minister Held at Bradford

BRADFORD, Tenn. The Rev. William A. Butler, 82, retired Baptist minister, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hettie Green, at St Stephen's, S. C. where he had made his home for the past year. He was born in Carroll County, and was married to the former Miss Adeline Henson, who died in 1953. Rev. Butler had been preaching since he was a young man. He received his education at Hall-Moody Institute at Martin. His first chureh was at Pilot Oak, Ky. He retired in 1952 while completing service as minister of the Idlewild Baptist Church. Among places where he served are Mt. Pisgah, New Hope and Walnut Grove, all of near Bradford. He was well-known throughout the section. Services were to be held at 4 p.m. today at the Bradford Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry L. Garland, pastor, and the Rev. W. A. Farmer of Puryear officiating. Burial was in the Bradford Cemetery. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Green; a sister, Mrs. Bena Horn of Bemis; two brothers. Clint Butler of Carroll County and Newton Butler of Soper, Okla.; and four grandchildren.1
